The Asian Pacific American Religions Research Initiative (APARRI) is pleased to host an informational session with the Institute for the Study of Asian American Christianity (ISAAC).  Please stop by to meet the ISAAC staff and learn more about their current projects.

About ISAAC:

Mission:  To transform this looming crisis into opportunities for Asian Pacific North American (APNA) Christians to fully participate in the church, academy, and public life in North America and the world.

Priorities:

  • Equip culturally competent and biblically grounded professional and lay leaders for the APNA churches and communities.
  • Educate the seminary, the university, the church, and the public about APNA Christian history, presence, perspectives, and prospects.
  • Encourage research that brings breadth and depth to our understanding of APNA Christianity.

ISAAC provides educational resources and builds organizational capacity for engaging Asian Pacific North American Christian communities. We concentrate on the following four activities or services:

I.  Research

  • Persistent Witness: A Documentary History of Asian American Christianity
  • San Francisco Bay Area Chinese Churches Research Project
  • Inter-Generational Competency Among Asian American Pastoral Leaders
  • Trans-Pacific Transpositions: A History of Chinese Christianity in the United States
  • The Changing Face of American Evangelicalism Project (for the Institute for the Study of American Evangelicalism)

II.  Teaching

  • Summer Immersion Project (July 25-28, 2007 – Los Angeles)
  • Asian American Christianity Perspectives Reader

III.  Networks

  • Leadership Summit of Directors of Seminary and University-based Asian American Centers and Global Christianity Centers (Feb. 17, 2007 – Fuller Seminary)
  • Asian American Women on Leadership (AAWOL)
  • Society of Asian North American Christianity Studies (SANACS, in process)
  • Asian American Christian Business leaders network (in process)

IV.  Consulting

  • Developing healthy Asian and Asian American organizations and congregations.
  • Helping seminaries, denominations, and other organizations strengthen their work with Asian Americans.
  • Asian American diversity training for seminaries, denominations, and other organizations.
